2009-08-05 - 12:07 p.m. The Flower of Culture Chapter'里写道:"...culture and art take on their true meaning when they are known and loved by the people. Without the participation and appreciation of the people, culture and art are empty and meaningless." "...At that time however, few ppl in Japan attended classical music concerts or the ballet or the traditional art or visted art galleries. This was in part cos of the Jap ppl were not all that interested in the arts. Also, those in the arts did not make sufficient efforts to reach out and bring thier art to the people." This seemed to resonate with Mr Kuo's "艺术的重要性是次于生活的,生活才是最基本的,首要的". At the same time, it also agrees with Mr Han's "戏剧总归是演给大家看的". High culture has its down sides when it becomes too aloof and distant from the common people. Also, how civilised someone is cannot be strictly determined by whether he or she loves arts. There seemed to be a debate on the relation between culture and civilisation. I read somewhere that "it is not necessarily that ppl who love arts, classical music, literature or animals are kind people. Hitler love dogs. Most Naziz's top leaders love classical music. Human beings are so complex, isn't it?
